MOBILIZE PARTNERS WITH LOGIROAD TO MAKE ROADS SAFER AND REDUCE CO2 EMISSIONS

• Mobilize and Logiroad have entered into a partnership for two services dedicated to local governments: o Smart Road Monitoring: A solution for road diagnostics. o Road Safety: A solution that improves road safety. • Both data-based solutions are integrated into a smart platform with constant input. • Smart Road Monitoring and Road Safety truly help local governments with their decision-making as they help reduce road maintenance costs, noise pollution, and CO2 emissions generated by roadworks and vehicles. • Both services will be on show at the Salon des Maires (French trade show for local government)(1) and at a press conference at 9:30am on 22nd November.

The combined expertise of two companies serving the greater good

Mobilize, the Renault Group brand dedicated to new mobilities, and Logiroad, a French deep tech start-up that designs road analysis and management software, are combining their expertise to provide local authorities with ways to reduce road maintenance costs and emissions, while improving road safety.

• Mobilize is building on the Renault Group commitment to road safety, on its expertise in terms of road infrastructure assessment thanks to data input from connected vehicles and infrastructure, and on its skills and knowledge in the analysis of vehicle-generated air pollution and CO2 emissions.

• Logiroad has developed a new generation of tech platform: Logiroad Center. Built off more than 10 years of expertise working with local authorities, it integrates artificial intelligence and machine processing of images captured from vehicles in order to optimise scheduling of maintenance work and predict changes in road quality.

In combining their expertise and leveraging data from Renault Group’s connected vehicles that is constantly feed into the Logiroad Center tech platform for local governments, it makes for a precise and real-time understanding of road quality and road-user safety, thereby making the decision-making process much easier.

Decision-making assistance for local governments

Thanks to an accurate and regularly updated evaluation of road quality, paired with a ranking of essential road works and the respective budget requirements, local governments can make more timely decisions to build or fix roads. They can thereby save up to 20% on road maintenance costs, while also reducing the risk of accidents, CO2 emissions from road works and vehicles, and noise pollution. A road in good condition makes for smoother, safer driving.

Smart Road Monitoring: for more comfortable roads

In France, more than 150,000 km of roads are in a state of disrepair2 (cracks, potholes...), more than 40% of speed bumps are not up to standard, and €15 billion are spent every year to either repair or bring them up to standard.

The ‘Smart Road Monitoring’ road quality assessment tool makes it easier to manage the repair works that are needed to make roads safer and more comfortable to drive on. It is based on the combination of:

- data from connected vehicle that reflects road quality

- camera imagery paired with connected vehicle data

- artificial intelligence

- scientific algorithms based on the laws of road ageing

Local governments can use the Logiroad Center platform to easily visualize the quality of the roads, sort identified defects by type, and then prioritize essential road works while calculating the estimated budget.

Safety Road: for safer roads

France ranks 18th in the 2019 World Economic Forum ranking for road quality, while it was once ranked 1st back in 2012. However, a number of studies suggest that about 30% of road accidents in France are due to poor quality roads or lack of infrastructure maintenance, where repair works are often curative, and rarely planned ahead.

The ‘Safety Road’ service makes it possible to identify those spots that tend to lead to dangerous driving in a given geographical area, and thereby help local authorities in determining the best order in which road works need to be done to significantly reduce bad driving and thus improve road safety. The solution is a combination of:

- data from connected vehicles and infrastructure, along with location data and artificial intelligence to identify dangerous or risky driving and accident-prone areas

- camera imagery to detect other issues such as glare when exiting a tunnel

Local governments can also use the service to monitor the impact that changes made to road infrastructure have on in driver behaviour, almost immediately after being made.
