Felipe Pantone took his collaboration with Alpine to another level this weekend when the Spanish-Argentinean artist attended the Mexico City Grand Prix with Alpine F1 Team.
At his second race appearance, Felipe took inspiration from the colours of the Mexican flag and the street art prevalent around the Mexican capital to re-imagine the Alpine F1 Team logo in a stunning piece of artwork created within the Mexico City Grand Prix paddock.
His canvas was no less than the team’s garage panels, used to create the garage environment in which the A521 cars are prepared over a race weekend. Both Alpine F1 Team drivers, Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon, helped to finish his unique interpretation of the team logo, adding in their own touches to sign-off the work. The entire artwork, in which the Alpine F1 Team logo was transformed into a graffiti tag, took less than one hour to create.
Pantone is an artist based in Valencia, Spain. A graduate in Fine Arts, he has been a graffiti artist since the age of 12. A mix of conventional and abstract graffiti, his work is ultra-modern: the graphic design of his works blends with highly evolved geometric forms, putting into perspective the movement and dynamism of the contemporary world. Constantly drawing, his artistic identity was structured through his meetings with graffiti artists, dancers and other street artists. Pantone uses bright colours and graphic patterns so that the eye of the spectator is focused on his work and not on what surrounds him.
Earlier in the year Pantone put a unique touch on the Alpine A110 to express the personality of the French sports coupe by evoking a sense of “ultradynamism” and visual speed. The final result of this collaboration was unveiled at the Monaco Grand Prix in May, with Pantone signing off his stunning creation with a lap of the Monte-Carlo circuit with double world champion and Alpine F1 Team driver, Fernando Alonso.
Pantone also proposed his interpretation of a Formula 1 helmet, an iconic object of the motorsport discipline, and a Formula 1 car to celebrate the creation of Alpine F1 Team.
Laurent Rossi, CEO, Alpine: “Earlier in the year we teamed up with Felipe to imagine a bespoke livery for four Alpine A110 cars. We were stunned by the intricacy of the designs and how different graphical elements related to the unique characteristics of the car, speed and our connection to motorsport. We were delighted when he accepted our invitation to create another work in Mexico. This time the brief and materials were very different; a rapid artwork using materials available in the paddock and city, but he could have access to two very special assistants! It was very exciting to watch the work being created before our eyes and pleasing to see the end result. Thanks Felipe!”
Felipe Pantone: “It was a really cool experience to be in the paddock in Mexico and create a piece of artwork. I used to do graffiti back in the day and the challenge is all about speed; like it is in Formula 1. It was great to have Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon help me out too, as they are the true experts of speed! I’m super happy to team up again with Alpine F1 Team after our first introduction earlier in the year in Monaco. The team is always looking to implement new ideas and it was a pleasure to work with them again. Hopefully the finished product caught the eye in the paddock and brought a smile to people’s faces!”
