Thomas Cailley, first recipient of the Prix Alpine at Cannes

French director and screenwriter Thomas Cailley is the first Prix Alpine winner, which he will receive on 22 May 2025 during the closing ceremony of the Directors' Fortnight.

Alpine thus becomes a new official partner of the Société des réalisatrices et réalisateurs de films (SRF), with which, for the next few years, present an annual award at Cannes in recognition of the inventive direction of a young filmmaker.

The Prix Alpine aims to reward filmmakers who dare to shatter conventions and blaze new trails in French and international cinema.

Alpine and the Société des réalisatrices et réalisateurs de films (SRF) are delighted to join forces to award this prize to Thomas Cailley, director of the feature films Les Combattants (2014) and Le Règne Animal (2023), for his audacious work and ability to stray from the beaten track.

This new award is part of Alpine and SRF's approach to supporting and promoting filmmaking. Alpine enriches its dialogue with the artistic and cultural communities with this award. After several film collaborations (Largo Winch, Faster) and several Art Car* creations, Alpine aims to contribute to the dynamism of the French and international art scene. Through its association with the SRF, Alpine affirms its commitment to innovation and authenticity.

This partnership with the SRF perfectly embodies Alpine's DNA, which puts audacity at the service of creation. We are particularly proud to present this first prize to Thomas Cailley. Like Alpine in the automotive industry, he transforms the norms of his art with passion and character, and we are very proud to present him with this award in recognition of his creative ingenuity, says Antonino Labate, VP Alpine Sales, Marketing and Customer Experience.

The SRF is pleased to join forces with Alpine to present a new award during the Directors’ Fortnight. After the Carrosse d'Or, which recognises a filmmaker's career, the Prix Alpine will be awarded for the first time at the 57th edition of the Quinzaine to spotlight audacity, creativity and the ability to break away from narrative norms. We will thus have the honour of presenting this award to Thomas Cailley who, as he has proven in two feature films, perfectly embodies the spirit of this partnership, say Steve Achiepo, Romain Cogitore, Marine Francen, co-Presidents of the SRF, and Sylvain Desclous, Board member of the SRF in charge of partnerships.
